We are a Citizen Musician!

String Visions was recently accepted as a Citizen Musician!

This initiative, led by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, is an effort to acknowledge and celebrate the acts of musicians who build empathetic connections with their audiences… whether they are in an auditorium, a park, or an inner-city neighborhood. CSO and others are helping to promote awareness of the existence, quality and values of citizen musicianship.

From the website, about Citizen Musicians:

Citizen Musicians use music to create moments of community and share their experiences and enthusiasm with others. Citizen Musicians can be professional musicians, music educators, amateur musicians, and music lovers, as well as musical and educational institutions.

Music touches the lives of listeners of all ages, bringing beauty and enjoyment no matter how young or old the listener may be. Similarly, every performer, from a five-year old piano student sharing her beginner’s exercise with friends, to the greatest soloist performing at the peak of his career, shares a unique expression in his or her performance. They both have enormous energy, imagination and passion for their art, and so do citizen musicians, who harness this energy to touch others through music in moments of sorrow and celebration.

If you are a musician and want to use your musical talents to help others, learn more by exploring this site. If you know a musician who is already using music to create meaningful connections in the community, we hope you will share that story here.

CSO and Citizen Musician are phenomenal initiatives. Back in May of this year we covered the CSO Symposium where Yo-Yo Ma led a discussion on citizen musicianship.

We are humbled to be considered among the many citizen musicians who are impacting the world through music.
