In light of “The Future is Now” series and Visionary, it’s fitting to check out what some of the foremost musicians of the day think about the direction of classical music.
From Daniel Barenboim, who thinks classical music has become “intimidating, too aloof and disconnected from the masses:”
“Music today has been put more and more into an ivory tower…” (It has) failed to keep up with technological developments – records, CDs, iTunes – which had “democratized” the western classics
From Yo-Yo Ma, who is reaching out and connecting to audiences outside of the typical concert setting through collaboration with non-profits and other organizations:
“We can build community like nothing else… All it takes is imagination, attention and empathy – that we care.”
