Cleveland Institute of Music Adds Jamie Laredo, Sharon Robinson to String Faculty
For our student readers out there who are applying to colleges and conservatories, here’s a bit of news that might influence your school decisions next year: two world-renown musicians and pedagogues, violinist Jamie Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson, will be jointing the string faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music starting in fall of 2012. Laredo and Robinson, who have played together as members of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio for the past 35 years, will be teaching in the instrumental and chamber music departments, taking on both private students and coaching chamber groups.
Of this exciting appointment, CIM president Joel Smirnoff had this to say:
“Maestro Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson are two world-renowned artist-pedagogues whose presence within Cleveland and within our school is going to be a source of great pride and excitement for Northeast Ohio. There can be no doubt that Maestro Laredo and Ms. Robinson will inspire our students in new and important ways and will offer CIM as an institution and Cleveland as a city a myriad of new artistic resources and possibilities for the future. And beyond their artistry and pedagogical excellence, these are two wonderful human beings of great depth.”
Jamie Laredo and Sharon Robinson are both very accomplished string players and have established themselves firmly as concert performers, chamber musicians, and teachers. Laredo in particular is known for his involvement with festivals such as Tanglewood, Aspen, and Marlboro, while Robinson has been “highly sought after for her dynamic master classes” the world over. Their addition to the already strong faculty at CIM will surely inspire the school’s current students and excite next year’s potential grads and undergrads.
