Last week we featured the story of young Julia Duvall who presented a benefit concert for the Japanese earthquake relief on June 26. The event was sponsored by the Harmonia Music Club of Lebanon. I spoke to the club’s current president Katherine Hoopes last week. She described Julia’s maturity with a fondness and admiration for the incredible spirit of the violin prodigy. “Julia approached us with the idea for the benefit concert and said she needed a sponsor,” said Hoopes.
Fortunately they said yes. The efforts of Julia Duvall and the Harmonia Music Club were an incredible success, helping raise about $1400.
The Harmonia motto is “Live Music in the Community.” They offer opportunity, recognition and awards for talented young musicians and work to advance music and education. The Harmonia Music Club of Lebanon is part of the Pennsylvania Federation of Music Club’s (PFMC) whose mission is to “bring (the state’s) musical clubs, organizations and individuals together.”
