Monday’s Bow (March 19)

Daily Bow LogoWe hope everyone had a fantastic St. Patty’s Day over the weekend! If any of you were in the Ft. Worth area, you might have caught the symphony orchestra going green in homage to the holiday!

With the International Piatigorsky Festival having wrapped yesterday, we are always impressed at the vibrant musical talent that is being cultivated across the world, especially in those still in youth. Looking forward to the major Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition taking place next month in Beijing, China, it appears that we will have an opportunity to see at least two rising stars shine.

WHEN the world’s most talented young violinists compete in Beijing next month, two Sydney teenagers will be among them.

Grace Clifford, 13, and Anna Lisa Da Silva Chen, 15, have been selected to play at the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, regarded as the ”Olympics of the violin”, which this year attracted a record 230 applicants from 28 countries.

The girls are part of the Rising Stars program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, which provides tuition and support for gifted young musicians, and study under Robin Wilson.

Anna and Grace “both have very expressive personalities, well developed technique and compelling stage presence”, Mr Wilson said.

“As musicians they both have an intuitive sense of phrasing and character that is rare for their age. And each has a beautiful but unique sound.”

Eight Australians have been selected since the Menuhin competition – known as the world’s most prestigious international competition for young violinists – began in 1983.
